Strangers and acquaintances might think that I shelled out over $600 for an annual pass at Disneyland to ride rides like mad. Close friends and family, however, know that a good day at the park for me means a churro, a cheese dog, and a plastic cup of wine. So while my love of the happiest place on earth has much to do with Star Tours and Tower of Terror and Space Mountain, I only fully enjoy a visit if I’m able to get my grub on. One of my newest Disney finds is the flatbread at California Adventure’s Alfresco Tasting Terrace. Located in Pacific Wharf, Alfresco takes you to Italy’s wine country with both its fare and ambience. I’ve not been to Italy myself but here, I can pretend a little. At least until I look out beyond the terrace and see the rocky red peaks of the southwest (thanks to Alfresco’s proximity to Cars Land) and my beloved Tower of Terror. Still, it’s the perfect getaway spot, seemingly miles away from screaming tots and up-to-no-good teens and grown ups pushing through the crowd like the ice cream truck was giving out free snow cones.
The flatbread was suggested by an old coworker turned friend of mine who now works there. She was right with her recommendation. The official menu name is Flatbread Two Ways – half topped with arugula, pears, and balsamic, the other side with roasted tomatoes, olives, and bacon (which I picked it off and gave to my kid… most of it). I can’t say which “way” I preferred – both were zippy, zingy delights varying in texture and flavors. I call it a phenomenal find at a chill lounge in a land of tasty treats. Simply magical.
