I’ll make it quick and easy (or as quick and as easy as I’m possible of being). I’m on a social media diet. I guess social media fast is more accurate, but diet makes for more interesting word play. It’s part punishment, part motivation. It’s a tool for inspiring discipline. This pic on my Instagram says it all:
Since posting, I deleted Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and Snapchat off of my phone. I won’t open any of these on my computer (okay, so I did go to instagram.com to pull the photo, but it’s not like you can post from a browser; so that didn’t count). My plan is to stay focused and, most importantly, refuse to INDULGE!
That’s what I’ve been doing for the last couple of months. Saying yes, more, sure, bigger, no problem, of course. Perhaps that’s how I coped or mourned or dealt with my mom’s passing. But that’s no way to survive. While I’ve purchased many nice things and tasted some mighty fine food, I’ve got to get back to moderate living. So to get there, I’ve got to go hard core and sink below moderation to pure simplicity. And to hours and hours in the gym.
Okay, I’m going to see Beyonce this weekend, but those tickets were purchased before this turn. But I absolutely won’t post about it (as much as I want to) and I won’t eat everything that looks tasty on account of being out of the house; and I won’t empty my wallet buying my kid (she’s going too) as many souvenirs as she pleases (she may get one t-shirt) nor will I pay $10, $15, $20 for a tall plastic cup of wine (this will be a major challenge). I’ve plunged off enough slippery slopes to know where I need to stand when there’s a goal in sight.
Luckily (for you), I have stories and photos and artful descriptions of dozens of outings over these weeks of gluttony. Maybe I’ll catch up on my backlog of posts and be ready to make new foodie memories once elastic waistbands stop being my BFFs.
Until then, it’s Lean Cuisines, baby. This one…
was an absolute delight. It’s in limited release so I’m going to have to buy out Von’s now that I’ve sampled it and fallen in love (I tend to do that easily). Counting down the hours until I can have another one tomorrow for lunch, and also counting down the days when I’ll be able to tell Dianderthal fans that I’m back on social media (I’m sure all seven of you will miss seeing me around – but I’ll be here :)).
