With so many food and drink choices in Denver, it seems foolish for a traveller to make a repeat visit to a spot with just three days in town. Perhaps. And if so, I’m a damn fool because I sure did hit up downtown Denver’s Corinne for brunch two mornings in a row despite a wealth of brunchy places to be found while in town for a tournament. The first visit was with a fellow volleymom and a volleydad who, like me, don’t mind getting their early morning drank on. At $15 for unlimited and interchangeable mimosa, bloody marys, or ojo rojos, we were easily all in and, only on Day 2 of our trip, enthusiastic about our food choices (by Day 3, you start to feel a little like a Weeble Wobble, just rolling from court to court).
Between us, we dine on deviled eggs, on a chorizo-packed breakfast burrito, on pancakes served with a lemony syrup, and on the chicken and waffles. Each dish paid off, especially the one ordered by me – I’m a sucker for chicken and waffles (a battle raged in the pressure soaked minutes before I ordered between it and Corinne’s unconventional French toast; as it often does, chicken won).
The hubby chose exercise over brunch on this day; commendable, but he failed to make me feel guilty about my decision to drink and dine. Knowing we had a long afternoon of tournament ahead of us, I stopped at the lobby of Le Meridien, where Corinne resides, and ordered a breakfast sandwich for him, giving me a chance to linger in my mimosa buzz in the chic space as I waited.
On Morning Three, I’d maxed out (sort of) on decadent food and adult bevs. Yet, I want to share the bliss I’d experienced the morning before with husband. So off to Corinne we went. I did myself a favor the second time around and got a biscuit as part of my Eggs Your Way breakfast (my way was scrambled alongside chicken sausage and potatoes). Husband ordered the chicken and waffles – just as good when repeated. After all this food and bev, the bite my taste buds reflect most fondly of is that biscuit. Buttered and lightly spread with raspberry jam, these densely flavored, lightly packed treats were a true delight. Perhaps worth the cost of the flight. If I had a lot of points. One day I will. And I will go back to Corinne for biscuits and brunch.
The End.
